Been too long!

Wow!  My first semester as a full time teacher has been completed for about 2 1/2 weeks now and I am still in a whirlwind.  Christmas came and went, New Years has came and went and as I begin a new year, I have great ambitions to complete MORE DIY projects of all kinds of grander.  My brain has been on over drive thinking of all the possibilities.  Along with great ideas coming also come a huge life changing decision I am going to have to make…that will come later!

Bird is the word!

There are so many things going on in my life right now, that I just needed a break to catch my breath and take a little me time.

I recently accepted a new job, my dream job.  A full time math teacher here at VCSU, I start on August 19th and I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to be a full time teacher!!  I also took on an adjunct teaching job with Globe University teaching College Algebra on Wednesday nights, which I start on July 17th, I am also ecstatic about this!

We are hosting my parents on the 4th of July, which should be fun and also planning the bridal shower which is slowly shaping into something, what I hope is beautiful!

Gardening in the Sun!

The sun has finally peaked outside and high temperatures in the mid-70s have finally arrived!!  This is extremely excited considering less than a month ago we had SNOW on the ground!!

After the dog poo was racked, the lawn was mowed, and leaves cleaned up (we didn’t quite get them all in the fall before it snowed) it was off to the greenhouse to find some neat flowers!

Pillow Fun!

Since graduating I have realized, I have a lot of time, I mean A LOT of time and most I spend rummaging through other blog websites and google for fun projects.  I have created a stash of leftover fabric remnants from various projects I have completed.  Some small and some large pieces, and I didn’t know what to do with them.

One of my many cousins’, Cami, is moving into a new place and had invited me to her housewarming party; however, I will be unable to attend, but still wanted to do create something nice for her for her new place.   I headed off to the internet in search of some ideas…

Infinity Scarf and stuff

It has been quite the year.  Only 8 days ago did I walk across the stage at MSUM earning my Master of Science degree in Education.  The first in my immediate family to obtain a Bachelor’s degree and now the first in my extended family to earn a Master’s degree has me thinking of how proud I am of myself.  My husband says that he only gives me a couple of years before he believes I will get the itch to go back and start my Doctorate degree.  Hmm…maybe we want to start a family first considering we have been together for over 8 years and only a few months ago did we get married.  I have put his baby obsession on the back burner for too long now…

Here it is, only 3 days after Christmas and am wishing for those Christmas memories back!  I work all year long shopping and finding the perfect present for each individual and am anxious to start sale shopping this weekend in preparation for next year; however, I feel that next year is going to be different.  My goal is to create ALL handmade gifts in some way or another…let the challenge begin.

I wish I could make all handmade gifts for Christmas; however, this year does not seem to be in the cards for doing so.  My mother-in-law loves to have a journal where she writes down all kinds of things so I found a free pattern on the Cottage Home website and went to town.  I found the fabric at the local fabric store here in town, Quilted Ceiling, and bought 5 semi-matching fat quarters.  I am usually good at picking out a few pieces of fabric that go together; however, I struggle with making multiple kinds work.  I have tried doing some research on picking matching fabrics, but I seem to fail.  Please let me know what you think.

Well everyone, I have finished my thesis!  It has yet to be graded and I have yet to defend my thesis, but I finished writing my thesis.  There is a reason why I enjoy math, its because I get to turn numbers into letters and not letters into phrases.  Writing, is NOT my strong suit and I get very overwhelmed and anxious about it, but I did it!

To celebrate, I decided to take my sewing machine out…it has been starring me down lately, begging to be used.  I have a co-worker at Holiday who is getting ready to have her baby late December, but I wanted to make her something cute.  I settled on wanting to make an outfit for her little girl; however, the only patterns I saw were for summer/spring outfits.  Well, since they go to the lake I found a super cute FREE pinafore top from Smashed Peas and Carrots and decided I could do this!  I made the size to fit 6 months to 12 months as that would be approximately the size needed by the time the little one reaches summer.  Found some super cute fabric through and away I went.  I also decided I should make a diaper cover, which was way more complicated than I had intended, but it worked, none the less.
