Baby Gift

A friend of mine is having a baby and she is simply glowing full of sunshine!

I’ve been working on a few things for her; however, teaching interrupts the best of intentions!  She stated the baby’s theme will be Cinderella!  I found this adorable cross stitch quote from this Etsy shop.  I paired with white Aida fabric and turned into a cute 12″ X 12″ envelope pillow, complete with Cinderella themed fabric from

However I had first made a pit stop at Michaels arts and craft store and saw these bibs that appear to be “princess” themed and completed these quickly over the December holiday break.  The brand for these are both Dimensions.  All together I hope she likes her gift which will be mailed tomorrow!

Travel Size Pillowcase Covers…

Last month when my boss was visiting my office he noticed my awesome math pillows that I had made.  He was mesmerized and asked if I were for hire?  I told him that Incould be.  He further explained that he just loves his “My Piilows” and was in need of some travel size cases.  I told him I’d think about it.

Now my boss is of the outdoorsy type so while shopping at JoAnn’s I found some cute outdoorsy fabric combo.  I have at home a couple of travel “My Pillows” with the plain pillowcases so used that as my template.

I cut a 19″ x 28.5″ piece of main fabric and a 5″ x 28.5″ piece of matching fabric.

I folded the matching fabric and pressed in half the “hotdog” way, wrong sides together.

Then pinned the raw side of the matching fabric to the long side of the main fabric, right sides together.  Sewed using a 1/2″ seam allowance. and then pressed towards the main fabric.  Followed up with a top stitch, about a 1/4″ below my seam.

Finally matching right sides together, I pinned together 2 of the remaining sides, sewing a 1/2″ seam, unpinned and went back over and zigzagged stitched to prevent fraying since I don’t have a serger.

Turned right side out and pressed!

I matched them up to the “My Pillow” brand pillowcase and it was a perfect match!  Adding in the pillow, the case seems a little big, but I think it looks ok!

From the moment I started cutting until I did my last clip, took me about 30 minutes to complete bo cases.  I hope that my boss likes his surprise when they arrive at his office later this week.

Quoteable Pillows

Joey asked me recently as I was down stairs putting my latest project together, “Harm, haven’t you made enough pillows?”  I looked at him bewildered and said, “Ha, you can never have enough pillows!”  It’s still freezing in No. Dak. lately and there isn’t anything we can do outside yet.  We can’t mow the lawn, can’t plant, can’t weed, can’t play in the sun…we are limited to the indoors still.  So of course, I keep not only a clean house, but have to do something while hanging around so my go-to is always cross-stitching.

Christmas for a friend…

Christmas really sucked this year.  It wasn’t how I envisioned Christmas.  I really LOVE Christmas, but this year, this year has such sad undertones, I didn’t even put my tree up or any decorations for that matter.  It didn’t even feel like Christmas.  I watched the movies on Hallmark, played Christmas music and even wore an ugly sweater, but just couldn’t get in the Christmas spirit.  This year was to be when my family would be at MY house, but when grandma is placed in assisted living and we are her only family left, plans change.  When my husband’s mother spent Thanksgiving in the hospital and then later before Christmas announced she won’t be continuing her chemo treatment, plans change.  In my fit of selfishness, I volunteered to work at Holiday on Christmas day, because why not?  Christmas is going to suck anyways… We ended up having Christmas Even with my husband’s side of the family barely showing up, just long enough to get a quick photo and then everyone dispersed.  No special dinner, no exchanging of gifts, just hanging out…because as Joey’s dad said “Christmas is cancelled, why are you here?”

Been too long!

Wow!  My first semester as a full time teacher has been completed for about 2 1/2 weeks now and I am still in a whirlwind.  Christmas came and went, New Years has came and went and as I begin a new year, I have great ambitions to complete MORE DIY projects of all kinds of grander.  My brain has been on over drive thinking of all the possibilities.  Along with great ideas coming also come a huge life changing decision I am going to have to make…that will come later!

Shared Birthday Pillows!!

My sister is so lucky she shares the same birthday as my mom!  Weird, I know!  My mom always tells the story of how she was at dinner celebrating her birthday at Market BBQ and BAM here comes my sister and she says “I don’t want this baby born on my birthday!”  But here came my little sister anyways.  We are only 13 months apart, but we are complete opposites in every way possible, but I love her!  This year I wanted to make something special for her.  She has a unique taste, full of color and chickens….She has these four pet chickens so my inspiration came from them and her entire house is painted in bright colors so I chose bright colors to match her living room.  I made her a fashion pillow she could put on her couch.

Valentine’s Pillow and such…

Well, I totally feel like the most terrible friend, EVER!!  You see, one of my best-friends since oh about 3rd grade sent me a Christmas present full of yummy German chocolate, from Germany and I, I sent her nothing in return.  We have NEVER exchanged gifts in our entire lives and the one year I am not prepared for the “just in case” she sends me something.  Ugggghh, sometimes I feel like I can’t win.  In any case I thought it would be just as awful to go out and buy something just to have a sent present to her, late.  How obvious would it be to have a present sent after the fact, just not my style.  So I decided I would make her a Valentine’s Day present!  Ya know that pillow I made for my cousin, Cami?  Well here is a duplicate, just some scraps chosen from a Valentine’s Day charm pack.

Pillow Fun!

Since graduating I have realized, I have a lot of time, I mean A LOT of time and most I spend rummaging through other blog websites and google for fun projects.  I have created a stash of leftover fabric remnants from various projects I have completed.  Some small and some large pieces, and I didn’t know what to do with them.

One of my many cousins’, Cami, is moving into a new place and had invited me to her housewarming party; however, I will be unable to attend, but still wanted to do create something nice for her for her new place.   I headed off to the internet in search of some ideas…
