It’s Fishy…

I don’t know about you, but I think about Christmas all year long and shop too!  I’ve been struggling what to give my one and only niece, Allie.  At Christmas she will be just over 11 months and yes toys are a slam dunk I wanted it to be more personal.

I naturally took to Pinterest for inspiration and found this adorable pattern here:

Infinity Scarf and stuff

It has been quite the year.  Only 8 days ago did I walk across the stage at MSUM earning my Master of Science degree in Education.  The first in my immediate family to obtain a Bachelor’s degree and now the first in my extended family to earn a Master’s degree has me thinking of how proud I am of myself.  My husband says that he only gives me a couple of years before he believes I will get the itch to go back and start my Doctorate degree.  Hmm…maybe we want to start a family first considering we have been together for over 8 years and only a few months ago did we get married.  I have put his baby obsession on the back burner for too long now…

Here it is, only 3 days after Christmas and am wishing for those Christmas memories back!  I work all year long shopping and finding the perfect present for each individual and am anxious to start sale shopping this weekend in preparation for next year; however, I feel that next year is going to be different.  My goal is to create ALL handmade gifts in some way or another…let the challenge begin.

Make-up is my best friend!

Another week, no school, still on “summer vacation” until my final 3 classes of my graduate degree!!  In the meantime, I found a very cute pattern from Sew4Home to create a make-up brush set organizer.   Now, why did I choose to make a brush-set organizer?  Ever since I was little it has been instilled in me that women just wear make-up.  My mother, an avid Mary Kay wearer and seller has insured a never ending supply of make-up, why not?  There I am every morning dutifully putting on 5 shades of color followed up with liner, mascara, blush and a hint of lip stick.  Although this sounds like a lot, it has also been instilled that there is a right and wrong way of wearing make-up.  It must appear that you aren’t wearing any.

Basket full of fun!

I have successfully finished my mom’s birthday gift, previous post, and now it was time to attempt what I could make my soon to be 25 year old sister.  She is of a spunky sort as her paint in her kitchen is out of a tropical scene…very 5 o’clock somewhere ideas!  Very fun and welcoming.  Even though she now has her own home, it seems she is so difficult to shop for even though we are only 13 months apart, we are complete opposites.  I decided to make a beautiful table basket.  Her favorite color is orange, but felt that it was important to incorporate more colors than just orange.  I found the fun fabrics at JoAnn fabric.  The bias tape needed for the project, I made myself, pretty impressed with myself!!  The original design did not have any handle, but thought it would be pretty to add since I also had extra fabric left over.  More
